TN: 1977 Quarles Harris Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 3 hours - Decanted very cleanly through unbleached coffee filter paper. Surprisingly deep red in the centre with a slight hint of orange on the rim - the sort of colour that promises a pleasant secondary maturity. Dusty strawberries on the nose, sweet and slightly syrupy. Slightly thin texture in the mouth and a little simple with the flavour profile. Still tannic and with promising levels of acidity but less depth and complexity than I would look for in a great port. Dry aftertaste, dominated initially by the cocoa of the tannins and some spirit showing through but a very good and pleasant length. This is perfect port for sharing with friends while gossiping and not wanting the port to be the centre of attention. 85/100. Drunk after 3 hours of decanter time. 85 points
