TN: 1995 Croft Quinta da Roeda Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 24 hours - This is the second of a brace of bottles purchased from Majestic Wine in June in a vain attempt to find something to drink while better bottles lie undisturbed for a few months longer. The bottles are disappointingly dark and difficult to decant, but at least the bottles are manufactured with the seal of Croft moulded in. The wine decanted cleanly off a fair amount of very fine sediment, typical of that currently found in the '95/'96 vintages. As the wine decanted, it released a lovely smell of ripe blueberry fruit.

24 hours after decanting, this tasting note was taken:

Plum red colour, nose a little closed but reveals ripe, sweet blueberries on coaxing. Smooth and sweet entry with plenty of fruit, plums and damsons. Lots of acidic structure and a nice mid-palate development. The tannins are present but generally hidden behind the sweet fruit. The aftertaste is a little short, but very pleasant and dominated by milk chocolate. Pleasant drinking, but not stellar - say around average, but will probably improve with time in the bottle. 4/5. 88 points
