Anybody see any good buys on Madeira lately?

Need to pick some up for consumption this winter. Unless I can find a better buy or something more compelling, it will be back for another case of the Broadbent 10 year old Malmsey. But, hopefully someone will have seen something interesting that can be purchased here stateside.

I picked up some Blandys 1990 Malmsey Colheita a few months ago. Decent but kinda expensive. Been sticking to the Rare Wine Co. Historic series but would love see Borges around. I also heard the Rare Wine Co was going to bring in some more of the VB blend, but haven't seen it yet.
I have been paying too much for some old stuff at auction; and have to work more to pay it off!

I don't know if there are good buys, but there is a huge collection (63 lots with quite a few full cases) of Madeira up for auction on the 12th of November at Christie's in NYC. The youngest I see is a 1954, so even if there are good buys, they probably won't be inexpensive.

Yes, the consignor is a very serious collector friend and he is putting up the majority of those bottles. I don't believe that there will be any "good buys" when Christie's adds their commission to the accepted bids. I don't expect that to stop people from plying bids at some steep offerings, but hey ... that's what auctions are all about.

Eric I. there will be more VB in the marketplace. When we visited Barbeito they were telling us about the next blend. We also had the chance to try the VB. Of course we won't ever see the $25 price tag that we were fortunate to buy in at the first time around.

Anyone bidding at the Christie's auction, or thinking about it? I'm not a big enough fan of Madeira to bid, but if someone wants to offload a bottle (maybe two) from a lot, I might entertain that for cash or trade.

Got a 10 Year Broadbent Malmsey for $10 at auction recently

Leacock's 10 Year Malmsey for $25, but Broadbent has them beat in my opinion. I like the Blandy's Alvada, but never seen a deal on it.

The Alvada is always refreshingly good, but rarely if ever have I seen it discounted. It is a commodity item for Blandy's, owned by the Symingtons, of course.
