MA never had a sales tax on liquor, just a hidden excise tax. About a year or two ago the Commonwealth initiated a 6.25% sales tax on liquor and many were in an uproar over this. NH State Liquor Stores made a heck lot of money from MA residents driving north for their tipple. This November, the Commonwealth voted to repeal the sales tax. Come 1/1/11, there are going to be big time sales between both MA and NH liquor stores.
As many of you may know, MA has some of the lowest liquor prices in the world, so there should be some ripe opportunities to stock up.
Great--just convince the Packies (Mass. lingo for a "package" / liquor store) on the lower Cape to stock more than Fonseca ruby, Bin 27 and a cheap tawny.
