1985 Warres Vintage Port -- (375 ml)

Post by Jim R. »

Top shoulder fill, smell of vinegar under foil capsule from leakage, cork completely wet to top and beyond, red with orange rim
On opening-light mulberry and mocha nose with clean mulberry flavors and strong acid acid finish, alcohol showing in finish with slight metallic note, no VA in nose
D +1-light mulberry with rose notes and some molasses in nose, mellow mulberry and molasses flavors with tart acidity and some tannins showing on the gums in the finish, very clean flavors
D +2-fuller mulberry, strawberry, and mocha nose with a smooth and mellow entry of mulberry, strawberry, cinnamon and caramel flavors finishes a little tart and hot but very nice
D +3-lighter but sweeter mulberry nose, rough, sharp mulberry and cherry flavors with alcohol showing in finish
D +4-Mild, clean mulberry and strawberry nose with sharp currant and mulberry flavors with caramel and mocha acids still strong but alcohol has integrated nicely
D +5-much fuller mulberry and mocha nose with some metallic highlights, sweeter seeming flavors with good fruit presence, still plenty of structure but acids were not as noticeable
D + 19-very light mulberry nose slightly sour note. flavors still holding, acidity still strong

Overall I give it a 91 and see it as having a long life ahead. I only have two left so I will probably wait another 5 years before opening the next one.
