Opened a 375 ml bottle to share with my parents on their 50th anniversary, 11/23/2010. (1960 Croft and Taylor to come at the party this weekend!)
Porto Rocha Glorious 50th Anniversary Port
unknown bottling date, but probably 2006-ish
Color: Dark tawny with very slight red tones. Looks like an old but still alive Port.
Nose: Very nutty, lots of butterscotch. Vanilla and some light but old oak. Slightly harsh note, but not bad.
Palate: Yum! Butterscotch, dark ripe apricot, and some blood orange. There's a deep, vanilla-like alcoholic note as well; like what you might get from a bottle of high quality brewed vanilla. Caramel present but faint and hidden.
Finish: Warmth, something minty - possibly eucalyptus? - and slightly tart. Very long tail with a nice tart apple end.
Score: 95 pts. The best bottle of this that I've had, and it showed nicely. Everyone noted the butterscotch on the nose and in the mouth as it was quite prominent. This is a great Port and I hope that they're able to produce more of it in the future!
