2010 Quevedo Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

Tasted at Porto Quevedo in S. João da Pesqueira on 06-OCT-2010 as part of the 2010 Port Harvest Tour.

Well, not really. It was only 10 days old at the time and hadn't even been in a cask yet. So I'm not really sure what to call it, but some day it will become their 2010 Vintage Port.

2010 Quevedo Vintage Port (tank sample)

Very perfumey aguardente on the nose. Light and ethereal grape.
Nice tannins, but very soft. They have a very strange feel.
Fresh fruits, lots of blueberry. This doesn't need aging - bottle it up and let's go!

Not rated, but very fun to try.

We also tried some 2010 grape juice that hadn't yet been fermented. That had hay and straw on the nose, was quite sweet, and had a watery texture. In a way it was hard to see how the two were related because the Port has so much structure and depth to it while the juice seemed very weak in comparison. There's a lot of concentrating that goes on during fermentation and aging!
