2000 Presidential Vintage Port

Post by John Danza »

  • 2000 Presidential Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (12/26/2010)
Double decanted from magnum several hours before serving. Medium purple in color with no browning. Raisins and plums on the palate with a bit of alcoholic heat and only moderate sweetness. 24 hours later the heat has dissipated, leaving the moderate sweetness to show on its own. Not at all a complex wine, really pretty ordinary. It's a serviceable port that can be drunk now and for the next 10 years while waiting for the better wines in your cellar to come around. A wine to be purchased inexpensively only. (88 pts.)

Thanks for the TN on this. I bought a couple of these some time ago when they were being sold for $20 a magnum. I figured it would make a good early to mid-term drinker for a non-Port geek party one day. I had been wondering how this was doing and it sounds like a good time to slowly start looking for an excuse to open them.
