HOLY COW ... under $30 for a VP ... and then they put a MINIMUM of 2 ... not a maximum. Jeez, I need to get on their mailing list! [dash1.gif]

Or any smart phone for that matter. They have an Android app as well as e-mail notifications.

The max is 36 bottles for all wines. Port lovers will have to be patient and these offerings are very spotty--once every 3-4 months--but when they come the deals are good.

Well... not any smart phone. There's no app for my Windows Mobile phone (6.5... not "Windows Phone", aka version 7). But I'm on the mailing list, so I do get those. Unfortunately, their emails often arrive 2 hours late, which means that for Port which rarely lasts more than 3-5 hours I have a very narrow window of opportunity.

Port offers used to be reasonably predictable - they were almost always Friday afternoon when they did show up. But they're rare enough that it's too much of a bother to always be checking the web site on Fridays in hope, and lately they've been showing up at random anyway.

Two hours late? That sounds like a personal problem. Hmmm ...

I only know that because I've been sitting at the computer before when an email arrives, only to come here to post about it and see that someone else already posted 2 hours ago. [dash1.gif]

Most of the time it's not a big deal because the dry reds don't typically turn over that quickly (or at least the ones I'm interested in don't seem to), but for Port it's a problem because they typically aren't offered for very long.

I spend most time in front of a computer and the last thing in the world I need is to be checking something other than IMs, emails, websites that I visit daily, or FB etc. for other forms of communiques by having to check freakin' text messages or other emails on my cell phone. I own a nice cell phone that has all the capabilities, but it is ONLY used when I am in my car or at the FAIR. Otherwise, it is practically an ornament.

I understand those who live on their cell phones and use it for everything except showering, brushing their teeth and eating meals ... but until I am faced with the reality of my daughter having her own cell phone, mine will remain in the "off" position sitting beside me when I am driving. I have enough "screen time" as it is! [help.gif]

It's back again at http://www.wtso.com for $29.99

1 bottle minimum, but apparently only 2 day air shipping is available at $2.99. Not the end of the world, certainly. I got my 1 bottle.

Well, I'm in for three - don't know how long they'll last with one bottle minimums. Funny that I didn't do it with a 2-bottle minimum, but then ordered more than that when I could get less...

In for two. I considered more, but that will ship nicely with four other bottles I ordered from them a few weeks ago.

There is a known problem with some ISPs blocking WTSO notifications. You may need to go to the web-based version of your ISPs email system and add the WTSO email sending address to your addressbook. This whitelists their emails. I went for several months without getting ANY notifications. Turns out my ISP (comcast.net) was rejecting them as spam.

A two hour delay may mean your ISP is a "graylister". If you haven't sent email TO that address recently, they simply don't return an acknowledgement when an email comes in. If the email is legitimate, the email server will send it again after a while. Then the ISP accepts the email as legitimate (hence the delay). Spammers are rarely around long enough on any single server to register the lack of acknowledgement.

Graylisting works, but it sure slows down email from addresses that you don't send things to. At my previous ISP I finally turned it off and did my own spam filtering locally. I ran an email client that allowed Regular Expressions in filters, so they could be made fairly elaborate. Such as any email with more than three asterisks in the subject. Or with a zero mixed in with alphabetic characters (D00D). Or of course with any of several hundred likely spammer words like drug names, "enlargement", and the like. You filter first FOR your friends and subjects you are interested in, then AGAINST other things if it isn't a friend.

Currently I don't have much in the way of filters, but Comcast does pretty good at filtering spam.

I use Yahoo for my purchases, etc... I've got it filtered to send all WTSO emails to a specific folder. There's also an iPhone app for WTSO.

Odd, I have Comcast and don't recall that ever happening. I'll have to try whitelisting WTSO and see if that improves the timing.
