1970 Burmester Vintage Port -- extra selected

Post by Rune EG »

Purchased 15 years ago in Denmark. Bottled 1973. No evidence of leakage in the metal capsule. After removing the metal, the top of the bottle was very dry, and when the corkscrew hit the cork, then the cork disappeared down in the bottle! Decanted 6 hrs. Colour half-way between ruby and tawny. Aroma clearly on the way to be more tawny-like. Taste with less fruit, while the nuts and oak are becoming more evident. A little tart towards the end and showing more spirit than I like in a vintage port. Medium finish. Should have been consumed 15 years ago, as I got the impression that the bottle was way over the hill. Typically a bottle I have kept too long. Drinkable as a tawny / colheita. 85 pts.
