1955 Buckingham Palace Blend Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

Part of the '55 @ 55 tasting at the RAF Club in London with special guest Christian Seely on 12-OCT-2010 after the 2010 Port Harvest Tour.

1955 Buckingham Palace Blend Vintage Port
label reads:
1955 Royal Vintage Port
This Port is of the 1955 Vintage, especially blended and bottled for His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales by the British Shippers in Oporto.
A port of this age contains much sediment or crust and needs resting for a few weeks before being decanted.

Color: Third darkest along with the Warre. Dark red or garnet.
Nose: Perfumed alcohol, allegedly corked. Some secondary fruits.
Palate: A little bland and edgy, some Christmas spices.
Finish: A bit harsh. Warm and long, though.

Score: 87 points. While others claimed it was corked, I couldn't tell and thought it was reasonably nice if a bit past its prime.
