30 Year Old Tawny Port by S. Leonardo

Post by Glenn E. »

Purchased from Goncalo Devesas while he was at Vinologia in Porto.

S. Leonardo 30 Year Old Tawny Port

Color: Medium dark tawny with lots of orange.
Nose: Light VA, faint sweet lemon, honey, some almond. Faint oats.
Palate: Easy and smooth - very smooth. Faint tropical fruits; lychee, kiwi, banana. Some blood orange. Another noted raisin bran without the raisins. Good acidity.
Finish: Early hit of brown sugar then molasses. Nice warmth. Some tart apples late.

Score: 95 points. An amazing 30-yr old. Easy to drink, yet rich and complex at the same time. I especially enjoy the tropical fruit overtones as they make it stand out from the usual crowd of dense, rich, dark dried fruits.
