1977 Taylor Vintage Port

Post by Richard Henderson »

Opened 1-9-11
Decanted 3.5 hours. Always a gem. Great ruby color , pwerful bouquet, perufme ripe strawberries, mint, cinnamon. Great entry, big flavors on the palate. Smooth lingering finish. One of the best bottles of this port I have ever opened.
I give this bottle 98 points.

For sure one of the best of the vintage...and being the best bottle you've had is a very good thing.

Best bottles of the '77 Taylor is certainly at the very top of the 1977 grouping of VPs, along w/ Fonseca (when they show well) and Gould Campbell, the dark horse of the vintage for me. I've long been a fan of these 3 and would put the Dow in 4th place, followed by the ultra-extracted, concentrated but simple Smith Woodhouse which always shows beautifully.
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com
