Decanted about 2 hours there was still a little heat showing which lessened the longer this sat in the decanter. Soft and sweet with spices this was pretty tasty and didn't last very long before the decanter was empty. We all agreed this bottle has probably peaked and on a nice plateau where it should remain for some time to come. Chris brought this over from the UK with him and even after a 11 hour flight and a short decant this was drinking nicely for a vintage rarely talked about. I've had this twice now with similar impressions.

I can't think of any VP that has ever been more than "good" from the 1982 vintage. That did not stop people from declaring back then as it is arguably a "split declaration" that I remember seeing discussed in the mid-1990s. Some felt early on that the 1982 was going to best 1983, but I believe that nearly 30 years later, nobody whose tried them side-by-side, would think that there are more top VPs in 1982.

I've only had a few '82s and from that limited number I'd say 1983 was the right choice.
