2004 Royal Oporto Vintage Port

Post by Lamont Huxley »

From a 375ml bottle, this has now been in the decanter for about 24 hours -

An opaque, eggplant purple in the glass with red highlights. The nose didn't give much on the first night but at this point it's showing some very nice, floral strawberry/raspberry/pomegranate aromas - not particularly complex but I'm definitely enjoying keeping my nose stuck in the glass. Smooth, primary berry fruit on the palate is balanced by tangy acidity and slightly drying tannins that tail off into a medium length finish. There is some noticable spirit as well but it comes across warm and pleasant rather than harsh. All in all, a well balanced, medium-bodied and very tasty VP. Probably not a long-term port but seems to have plenty of upside. 89pts, Tasted 2/11
