I have noted that in many tasting notes from various wine journalists around the world, this wine did not do it too well when it became available early 2008. Being 3.5 years at that time, I have seen scores in the range 82-91. Being the first vintage of Quinta do Noval Douro red, the expectations were high, but at that time the wine did not live up to these expectations. Also when both this second level and also their first level Douro red (which I have not yet tried), are being sold at prices which could be considered as overpriced. I decided to form my own opinion, and now when the wine is 6.5 hrs it came out much better than reviews made back in 2008. So it seems aging in the bottle is doing it well.
Decanted 1.5 hrs. Dark red with a light rim. What I would call a typical nice Douro-aroma of berries and oak in perfect harmony. Powerful, smooth, elegant. Medium body. Medium finish. Want to try it again. 92 pts.
