2000 Ferreira LBV Port

Post by Glenn E. »

From a batch of LBVs that I tasted over a couple of days in late 2010.

2000 Ferreira LBV
unfiltered, bottled 2004

Color: Very dark red, nearly opaque in the center.
Nose: Some alcohol, some tomato paste. Fruits are well blended but leaning toward red.
Palate: Decent tannins and acidity. Mostly reddish purple fruit flavors. Fairly smooth, but not entirely so. Well rounded for what are primarily red flavors.
Finish: Starts smooth but gains an edge. Decent warmth and some grip from the tannins.

Score: 90+ points. I was expecting an elegant style like I normally see in Ferreira Vintage Ports, but this seemed more like a "normal" LBV profile to me.
