1983 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

Post by Jim R. »

Decanted 6 hours, tasted consistent over two days. Deep ruby with slightly red edge, decanted clear. Excellent heavy cassis, blackberry smoky wood nose; soft mulberry, cassis, toffee, licorice flavors with some noticeable alcohol, fine long finish that shows signs of balance but is still too strong and tannic for current use (for me). Still unready but excellent. 92 points. Purchased Jan 2000 for $ 30. Last bottle. Opened April 29, 2011.

This is a very underrated VP from '83, glad you enjoyed it and as you noticed it does have a good life ahead of it.
