TN: 2005 Quinta do Crasto Vinha Maria Teresa Douro red

Post by Rune EG »

Decanted abt. 2 hrs. Dark red colour. Deep aroma of fruit, oak, nuts and something indefinable sweet (plums?). Full body. Balanced and a wine with character. Good mix of fruit and oak with clearly noticeable nice tannins. Quite powerful and on the way to be elegant as well, but not really there yet. Kind of sweetish finish, which is very long. Have two more bottles, and next time I will try at least 4 hrs decanting. Seems that this wine is too young to drink now. Considered one more point, but decided as follows. 92 pts.

Now that's an understatement  I find these do much better with at least 9-12 hours of decanting, or better yet the next day for the younger ones. Big wines that have an amazing life ahead of them. I hope you have more in the cellar so you can experience these when they get older.

Thanks Andy, next time I will try with the extended decanting time as you suggested.
Such Douro wines are only for special occasions, and as I hope there will be one more reason to open the second bottle I will do so before the summer.
My 92 pts is indicating that what I experienced was a very nice wine, but not really the greatness that I have expected.
Will dig deep in the pocket and buy a few more in Denmark this summer.

Baby killer! Must be hard to hold off on drinking such a fine bottle. Tough to have such problems. [cheers.gif]
