An introduction

Post by David Graham »

Just wanted to introduce myself and my comparably woefully inadequate experience in ports.

I traveled to Porto November 2010 as a bit of a lark and wanting to travel to a less popular destination. I knew little about ports prior to my visit. After touring a cave or 2 I knew the basic story and a little more. Then I spent a great night at Vinologia and became much better educated. I left Vinologia with a bottle of Quinta Revolta 40 year tawny and a half bottle of the Dalva 52 (which I have to admit I am still unable to bring myself to open). I also found that I really enjoy the Kopke 10 year aged white port.

Living in central Illinois, I don't have the best access to better ports but I continue to look

I am probably heading back to Porto in October to further my education

Anyway, hello to all and I look forward to reading your great discussions

[welcome.gif]. Glad to have you on-board! On the FTLOP you'll find a wealth of Port related information and a group of very passionate Port aficionados. I agree with you in the '52 Dalva - that's some special juice. Were you able to visit the Douro during your trip to Portugal?

I didn't get up river on that trip. The rain was fairly torrential during my time there so a river trip didn't seem the brightest idea and my own self-imposed rules of travel lately include no car rentals. I do plan on getting further inland on my next trip, weather permitting

Hi David

And [welcome.gif] to the forum. Many of us have spent quite a bit of time at Vinalogia and as you found out it's a great place to enjoy many different Ports, many from producers you'd generally never see outside the country. Thanks for the introduction and I look forward to your involvement here.
