2005 Taylor Fladgate LBV Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

The first thing I noticed was how tannic this was, which was more like an unfiltered LBV than a filtered one. Plenty of bosenberries, plums, and the afore mentioned tannins give this plenty of body. No shortage of fruit not only on the body but the finish as well, which gave plenty to savor. I was impressed with the 2003 and 2004 vintages of this and this is keeping in that tradition. I admit I wasn't a big fan of this LBV in past vintages but that has changed since the 2003 vintage. I am very glad to see the marked improvement in recent vintages and considering it's $17-19 (USA) price it's a no brainer to buy.

Nice note Andy and I agree with your sentiments. I've only had this twice, but I definitely prefer the 2003 Taylor LBV. It is a notch above the quality of the 2005, about two points or so, imo.
