1991 Taylor Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

Didn't take notes, but here are my impressions/recollections the next day.

Decanted off of a mix of fine and small chunky sediment twelve hours prior to serving. Beautiful clear garnet color. Aroma was dominated by heat when swirled, along with some menthol and dried leaf spice. Nicer in the mouth with some red fruit. Medium body. Medium finish with a return of the alcohol warmth.

We enjoyed this, but the alcohol was a distraction. 90 points.

Hi Eric;

Do you think it needed more time in the decanter to mellow out?

I would have thought that 12 hours would have been enough, and it didn't seem any better an hour later. But we liked it enough so there was nothing left to taste after that. I have two more bottles, so I might try an overnight decant the next time, but I can't really say for sure that that will help.
