Auction price data

Post by Eric Menchen »

I just received an e-mail today from HDH for their next auction. I didn't see any Port listed, but thought this graph was pretty interesting.
A sample of information found in their catalog for the upcoming auction. See the link above for more information.

While Port probably wasn't in their sample basket, I think Port pricing has followed this graph fairly closely. What do you think?

If I read data from their June auction correctly, the port generally was selling at the high end of the preprinted range, and sometimes beyond it. Some of those ranges did seem to be a little on the cheap side, though.

A huge part of their auction business is Bordeaux. China has propped up demand for Bordeaux for some time now. If you look at other regions, they only seem to be getting cheaper. I'd say there is likely a strong correlation between Bordeaux prices and China's economy.

I bought Port in a number of auctions in early 2009, and then saw prices increasing. Just this spring I saw some lowering and bought again.
