10 Year Old Tawny Port by Wine & Soul -- (Pintas)

Post by Rune EG »

Tasted first time at dinner with winemakers Sandra Tavares and Jorge Borges in Pinhao as part of the FTLOP Harvest Tour 2011. Liked it immediately and found it for sale in Denmark. This port is in reality abt 17 yrs. Some of the port is from Borges family quinta, but they cannot say for sure the age, which is the reason for why they are only allowed call it 10 yrs old. Produced 2,000 bottles.

Tasting note based on having consumed three bottles: Decanted 1 hr which is important to get rid of the alcohol aroma. Dark brown colour with a red touch, showing that it is closer to 20 yrs. Deep complex aroma of figs, nuts, some oak and caramel. Pleasant, full body, balanced, powerful, a bit sweet (but not too much). Long aftertaste. By far the best 10 yr old tawny I have tasted. A big hit at our Christmas parties. 94 pts.

I quite liked this too and sadly I've not seen it here in the States, or at least in my neck of the woods :(
