Somehow sad news... We all know that the wine from the Douro is getting better and better - but we all also know that Douro wine is very cheap, compared with other quality wines (which is of course nice for us wine-crazy consumers - but terrible for the producers).

I am convinced that the next years will be quite hard for the Portuguese economy - and I hope that we don't see many more stories like this. Lurton of course can now focus on his operations in Argentina and othe countries - but what is with the small Douro farmers, that have no other place to go to?

Never heard of these so-called 'high-quality " estates so no big deal in my opinion. I did not even know he had dabbled in the region!

I admit I didn't know he was there either and I can't recall ever hearing about or trying those wines. Though it sounds as though the company is continuing, just without one partner in the firm.Bob Parsons Alberta wrote:Never heard of these so-called 'high-quality " estates so no big deal in my opinion.
