1980 Dows Vintage Port

Post by John M. »

Deep garnet color, aroma of raisin and date. Still lots of fruit and some tannins. Decent length finish with raisins and stewed strawberry.

An amazing VP, isn't it? I had this in a Dow vertical that went back to 1960, and it looked out of place in the lineup. It was easily darker than any of the other Dows except for the 2003 and the 2007. Meaning that it was darker than the 2000, 1997, and 1994! Still a very youthful Port... it probably needs another 20 years if not 30 to mature.

Easily the WOTN in a casual lineup of 1980 Fonseca, 1980 Gould Campbell (bottle stink) and 1963 Warres (oxidized) and a Ficklin 20 year tawny.
