1994 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

Last night had some friends over for what, but coincident, turned into a mini-1987 California Cabernet and Zinfandel night. I hadn't planned on any Port until they all started clamering for some. I grabbed this out of the cellar and it was popped and poured, no decanting at all. Full of fruit, tannins, solid acidity, soft minerality, and full bodied. I know these have been a little closed up recently but this popped and poured bottle showed wonderfully. There is a few drops left over so I'm curious to see if it's closed up after being opened for 12+ hours. Will report back...

I've got one of these lined up for later this year - good to hear that it's showing well.

Last night I had the remains, 24 hours later. The fruit was gone and it was all aguardente, closed up tighter than a drum. I'd recommend to pop and pour and not leave any left overs. It sure is in a weird place at the moment and needs time.

We had a bottle from Glenn's cellar that was outstanding. It had plenty of air time and was wide open and beautiful. Actually, better than that! [friends.gif]
