1977 Messias Quinta do Cachão Vintage Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

Bottle #2, which I couldn't pass up buying them for the whopping price of $20. When I decanted it there was a confectionery bubble gum smell to it that wasn't very pleasant. Thankfully when it was time to drink this about 7 hours later it had blown off and was replaced with licorice, a hint of cloves, and some tawny notes. This bottle showed a bit tawnied with a touch too much spirit showing. Putting in a bucket of ice water for about 20 minutes to chill it down a little really helped mellow that spirit. A bit simple on the palate and a little short on the finish. Despite that, overall it was still a pleasant VP.

Initially with that nose I was scared it was going to be tossed down the drain. Thankfully it blew off and was a decent bottle, but yeah, nothing spectacular.
