2008 Vintage Port availability

Post by Andreas T »

Hi, Want to buy a mixed case or 2 of 2008 VP (my son's birth year) however I only see a few bottlings for sale in the US (Fonseca Panascal, Croft Roeda, Taylor Fladgate, Quinta do Vesuvio of which I 've already bought). Any idea if/when other producers/bottlings will hit the US market (for example, Noval, Romaneira, Dow, Crasto, Portal, etc.). Thanks.

Hi Andreas,

The 2008s should all be on the market by now. They might not all get shipped to the US, though, because it was not a generally declared year. So you probably won't be able to find a Vintage Port from every producer. I'm not that familiar with the 2008s so can't tell you for sure which ones were declared and which ones weren't, but here's what I've seen:

I've seen Vesuvio, Fonseca Panascal, and Taylor Vargellas. Noval and Romaneira declared, but I haven't seen them in the US, which at this point in time means we probably aren't getting them directly. They might eventually show up at auctions if someone hand imports a case or two.

I think Dow declared a Quinta da Senora da Ribeira for 2008, but I haven't seen it. I've seen listings for a Quinta do Bomfim, but I didn't think that was declared so they might be bad listings.

I could swear I sent you the 2008 Vintage Port report with tasting notes within the past 24 hours, Andreas. Did it not make it to you?

Hi Roy, Thanks but haven't received it as far as I can tell. However if its the same tasting notes that you have posted on FTLOP then I refer to that quite often already. Thanks, Andreas
