TN: 2007 CARM Douro Reserva

Post by Bob Parsons Alberta »

Two years ago was rated very highly in the WS Top 100 but then I already knew that these CARM reds were right up there!
Blend of the usual suspects...T Nacional, T Roriz and T Franca. 13.5% alc, $34 Cdn, good natural cork, think I should have decanted but opened on spur of the moment.

Color is a dark crimson purple, and on the nose I found ripe berries, some earthyness, oak and cherry. One taster thought "hint of chocolate". Very inviting indeed and typical Douro nose imo.

The palate was quite interesting but I felt another two yrs would improve this big red. Medium tannins, full-bodied, black berries, tad astringent without some food (we did have some Italian sausage). Fruit is ripe, noted plum, one taster remarked "tart finish, I read here on my laptop some call it Burgundian". I did not see that at all, think it will show more elegance in time.

It was a great Canada Day!
