Lots of smokey bacon fat on the nose, already quite different from the 2009. Full bodied, but not the lush fruit of the 2009. This is showing more earthy characteristics of new leather, black stone fruit, a wisp of youthful plums just noticeable still, lots of minerality, and well placed tannins. The long finish is an extension of the palate. The more this sits open the more this is gaining steam. While the 2007 got more accolades from the press this is right there along side it and it will be fun to compare these side by side over the next 10+ years time.
