Consumed during dinner at Porto-restaurant before 2011 FTLOP Harvest Tour.
Decanted 1 hr. Dark red colour with a distinct touch of brown. Aroma like old Barolo, woody earthy, some iron and smoked meat. Full body. A bit elegant, very dry, but still some hints of figs. An extremely demanding wine which is now on the way over the hill. Aroma was 92 pts, but the wine was only 85 pts. Total score is 87 pts.

Re: TN: 1996 Niepoort Redoma Douro red
To my mind, there is no justification in giving 87 pts to a wine on the way over the hill. Why would I want to buy this one in an auction whatever?

Hi Bob!
87 pts indicates that the wine is still drinkable at this stage.
But the bottle that we had for that dinner would not be of interest in a few years from now.
Based on this experience I would personally not buy any bottles of Redoma 1996
