Krohn Colheita 83
A Port house that is not listed anymore at the SAQ. Since I do not taste them very often I decided to go visit them this year at their lodge in Gaia. I've tasted a few and this 83 was definitively a strong buy, so I brought one back home. Brown amber color with pale yellow edges, the color does show its age. On the nose, a little bit of heat but attractive flavours of caramel, nuts, candied fruits, nutmeg, medium intensity. On the palate, this is where it get serious! Dry entry with a good dose of acidity as a like them, it stays with the flavours of nutmeg, fresh almonds, caramel and raisins up to the finish that just keep on going! Worth mentionning the concentration of flavours and the density of this liquid. It was opened on Saturday and I gave this an easy 93, 2 days later, I could easily give a 95.

Interesting. I was underwhelmed by the 1983, especially after being spoiled by the great 1976. Maybe there is a bottling difference? What was the bottling date of your 1983?

It was 2011. It really benefits from that 2 days of oxidation.

Ah! I believe that mine was bottled in 2006. I'll check the date when I get home.
