1999 Quinta De La Rosa LBV Port

Post by John Conwell »

This is the bottle that the mysterious wine fairy left on my desk yesterday.

I put the bottle in the refrigerator for 20 minutes prior to opening it to bring it down about 10F below room temp. After opening the bottle, the color is incredibly dark purple, lightning very slightly at the edge.

The nose is of medium strength, smelling of grape jam and slightly sweet. The taste is of grape jam and raspberries, with very little heat. It has pleasant amount of acidity, just shy of too much. The tannins are plentiful, but again definitely pleasant. It might use with some aging to see if everything tones down, but its very enjoyable as it is.

I'd give it a 88. Its a fun wine, but not a very complex taste. Its a little too simple for my tastes.
Thanks, John C
