2008 Quinta de la Rosa LBV Port

500ml bottle, T-stopper. Consumed over 3 days.

Very dense and dark color, still some purple around the edges. Pretty closed initially upon opening, with mostly tannin at the fore and little nose. After 3-4 hours, the wine opened into a ripe, very expressive nose of red fruit and spices (cinnamon, clove, etc.). The palate was again full of fruit and spice, and had an excellent acidity to leave the big fruit balanced and bright. Alcohol was in good balance as well. This is entirely a sexy, full, big wine that stayed that way over the whole 3 days. Delicious, a great LBV for the now, rather than the later.

Quinta de la Rosa excels on the bottom end of port offerings like basic ruby and LBV than VP. Good to hear this is drinking well. Not sure the last time I saw their LBV available.

Honestly, the first time I had this a few weeks ago, I wasn't in the best place to give an objective opinion, but I was impressed. I figured I'd give it another shot to see if it was really that good when I had a clear head and no distractions, and it met every expectation.

On a side note, it's now become a very pricey LBV in town, I had purchased the first couple bottles for ~$15 for 500ml, then stopped in yesterday to buy a couple more and found them at $28. When I asked about the price jump, apparently the one clerk hadn't noticed that the LBV wasn't the standard ruby while price gunning them (they're very similar in appearance) and that $28 was the correct price. Another shop in town has them at $28 for 500ml as well, so I guess it's not the screaming LBV bargain I had thought.
