1975 Cockburn Vintage Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

Decanted ~7 hours. Some musty woody aroma, with dried candied fruit. Lots of fruit, more wonderful than I expected. Then some light fruit, like strawberry. Thicker bodied, cherry sucrets, warm finish of medium length.

I picked up this 1975 on the cheap and didn't have high hopes, but it really showed well. I'm not going to run out and buy a bunch of 1975, but for the right price I think there is a good reward/risk ratio.

I also like this wine a lot. It's very solid and drinking great now. I had bought mine in a mixed lot of Niepoort. I was interested in the case of Niepoort. For what I paid, the case of Cockburn was free. I was thinking it would be a forgettable wine, but I was quite surprised! Good stuff!
