1955 Dow Vintage Port

Post by Steve Saxon »

My 50th birthday, so we started out by drinking a 97 Pahlmeyer, 99 Merus, and a 55 Haut Brion. The capsule and cork on the Dow were in good shape, and we decanted for about 2 hours. The color was darker than previous bottles of this vintage. The nose never really got going, but this was the best tasting port that I've ever had. Long lasting flavors of plum and chocolate, tannins were perfectly balanced, and the finish was deep and long. With a evening full of wonderful wines, this was a great way to end it. 96 points

A very good note. I like hearing about the 55's. I recently obtained a 1955 Taylor for a friend's 50th. It was great.
I hope to try some older ports in the future. Roy has a lot. I volunteer his place for a tasting. I will bring a bottle of the 55 Taylor. I am sure he will open some of his older Nacional's in honor of the opening of this great website.
