Between my last post and now the Euro had increased back up to 1.37+ but had now returned to 1.35381 as of this moment.

Re: The Rise & Fall of the Euro
1.38930 ... I would have bet that with Ukraine and threat of oil tightening by Russia, and uncertainties around the EU, we'd have seen some weaking of the Euro. In fact, just the opposite has taken place over the past couple of weeks. Odd.
Temporary increase?

Re: The Rise & Fall of the Euro
FXE chart looks bullish here. EU policy is tighter right now, and we have been looser with ours. Whoever is right or wrong, that is why the euro is rising against the dollar.

Roy have you considered a simple widget for this thread? Updates live... not in a message post however:
Code: Select all
<!-- Simple Currency Rates Table START -->
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://www.exchangerates.org.uk/widget/ER-SCRT2-css.php?w=180&nb=2&bdrc=E0E0E0&mbg=FFFFFF&fc=333333&tc=333333" media="screen" />
<div id="erscrt2"><div id="erscrt2-widget"></div><div id="erscrt2-infolink"><a href="http://www.exchangerates.org.uk/US-Dollar-USD-currency-table.html" target="_new" ><img src='http://www.exchangerates.org.uk/widget/logo-333333.png' alt='ExchangeRates.org.uk'></a></div>
<script type="text/javascript">
var tz = '-8';
var w = '180';
var mc = 'USD';
var nb = '2';
var c1 = 'EUR';
var c2 = 'GBP';
var t = 'Live Exchange Rates';
var tc = '333333';
var bdrc = 'E0E0E0';
var mbg = 'FFFFFF';
var fc = '333333';
var ccHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://www." : "http://www.");
document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + ccHost + "exchangerates.org.uk/widget/ER-SCRT2-1.php' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E"));
</script>
</div>

Re: The Rise & Fall of the Euro
Let me get this right - the bigger the number the more dollars you have to spend to buy a bottle of port. Is that right?

There is a machine-readable data source at www.ecb.europa.eu/stats/exchange/eurofxref/html/index.en.html#downloads, for those who care.
Re: The Rise & Fall of the Euro
Alex,
That is correct, as the valuation of the Euro increases vs. the dollar (or GBP for that matter), we definitely pay more for Port.
Personally, I hedge my bets by buying Euros when they go below 1.30 and load the boat when the hit 1.25.

Re: The Rise & Fall of the Euro
Thank you Julian, good to see that.
The Euro has stabilized in recent months between 1.35 and 1.365 for quite awhile now.
