1960 Dow Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 6 hours - One of the unknown bottles bought as a lot at auction. Pale, light brown with a red overtone; 15% opaque. Smells tired and slightly soapy, dosed with pine. Quite thick texture, nice body with sweet and concentrated fruit. Good underlying acidity provides for an attractive texture but there is a hot aftertaste and a hot finish with lots of pepper. The middle and end of the finish is better, with long syrupy fruit. The nose does not indicate how enjoyable this port is on the palate. Known to have been ullaged to mid-shoulder this was served blind and guessed to be Taylor 1963. 88 points
