1952 Delaforce Colheita Port
Color of flat root beer. Nose somewhat marred by considerable VA that never fully blew off, even after several days, but pure sweet chocolate and orange show through. On the palate, more chocolate, cinnamon, root beer, maple syrup. Firm acidity throughout, with the alcohol nicely in balance. Sweet vanilla, chocolate, and cinnamon again on the extremely long and pleasingly warm finish. The persistent VA was the only negative here. The vanilla, cinnamon and citrus notes really did remind me of sucking on a root beer barrel hard candy. A good decant won't hurt this. 91 points. Bottled 2005, purchased from Brown Derby. 7/1/2010

Very similar to my experience from a couple of years ago:
Tons of volatile acidity when first opened. This got a bit better with air, developing dried fruits, maple and nut flavors. Wonderful structure which keeps the sweetness in check... but the VA never fully disappeared. (90)

Hi Marco. I saw your note before I opened this, and was hoping I'd have a little better luck. At least there's enough going on in this wine to make it quite decent despite the VA...Marco D. wrote:Very similar to my experience from a couple of years ago:
