1996 Quevedo Colheita Port

Bottled in 2010; label reads, "It is aged in oak barrels for 12 years."

Pop and pour. Bright and clear ruby color in an IVDP glass with just a hint of brown at the edges. First whiff was of cherry Sucrets, which while not distinctly bad had me worried. But after that the aroma changed to a cognac/brandy alcohol with faint fruits and a little bit of brown sugar. In the mouth, lots of fruit, some dried and candied. Warmth is there but not overwhelming. Not very tannic, but some mild acid and just a pleasant bit of wood. Short finish.

Vacuumed and stored in the refrigerator overnight. The next day, poured into a larger glass and allowed to warm to cellar temperature.

Next day: This showed a more brown hue. I'm not sure if this was the glass or the time after opening that contributed to this. Aroma was still very similar to the first day, just as pleasant. In the mouth I got more fresh fruit along with the candied fruit. I thought there was something between strawberry and melon, and spent some time trying to figure out which tropical fruit I had once that tasted like this. Dragon fruit? Finish was nice and long this day.

Reminds me of a very good 10 year old tawny. Improved from 88-89 to 90 by the second day. Great QPR.

The third day showed a lot more acid and alcohol warmth. I might not have given it enough time to warm up after pouring. What can I say, I was anxious.
