Last night I went to a great restaurant in Montreal. I've been there a few times already and the owner is always very kind with me eacht time I go there. This time to thank him for all the good service I had in the past I brought him the Redoma Branco Reserve 2003 from Niepoort to show him how great can a Portuguese white wine can be.
Pale gold, the nose is bursting with intense flavours of minerality, lemon juice, fresh garden herbs, white flowers, fresh nuts and some anise. The mouth is full and bold without the heaviness, rich flavours of fresh nuts, lemon zest, lots of minerality again balanced with fresh acidity gives this wine a really nice structure and flesh very similar to my taste to what we can find in the 2002 meursault without all the wood we can often find in them in their youth. Very long finish on minerality and some fresh nuts flavours. 18.5/20
Redoma Tinto 2002 : My fourth bottle in 2 monts already, I'm really craving this one. First nose is bursting with wood notes like chocolate, vanilla and coconut. Then with swirl and time, this all integrate to let show more terroir flavours of young dark berry fruits like black currant and dark cherries still keeping that chocolate touch. Mouth is rich, full of fruits and mineral notes balanced with fresh acidity giving lovely structure so pleasant right now. Flavours of ripe red and dark fruits are filling the creamy textured palate, again a really good finish on fruits, chocolate and mineral tones. I've just ordered more! while it has less depth than the 2001 Redoma this one is so much more accessible right now, I can't resists. This wine should age well as it will keep that freshness and develop more complexity. 17/20+
