1970 Dow Vintage Port

American Crossword Puzzle Tournament Dow Vertical
New York City
March 19, 2011

My wife participates in the ACPT every year, and conveniently there is a lively Port tasting group in New York City. So every year we plan a Port tasting to coincide with the tournament, and this was the 2011 edition.

1970 Dow Vintage Port

Color: Medium red, roughly the same as the 1977 and 1985.
Nose: Nice, slightly soft. Pleasant fruits - some very soft primary and some rich secondary.
Palate: Very balanced. Good warmth. Strawberry creamsicle. Dippin' Stix sugar stick.
Finish: Long and smooth. Pleasant warmth. Some apple in the tail.

Score: 94+ points. My Port of the night, just edging out the 1994. This one is beautiful right now but should hold steady for 10 years or more. It won't steal my heart away from the T70, but I won't complain a bit if you serve it to me.
