1985 Warres Vintage Port

Post by Paul Fountain »

Day 1 - 6 hr decant. Cherries and berries on the nose, with a touch of cinnamon. It smelt like a much younger wine.
It was sweet and fruity up front - a real burst of initial flavour that evaporated somewhat before some fine tannins presented themselves nicely at the end.
Day 2 - It was more muted but spicier on the nose. The sweetness was still evident but some of the fruitiness had subsided. There was a more even transition through to the mid-palate and on to tannins, on the second day. The finishing tannins were a little bigger and it was a little hotter overall, but it was lovely drinking none the less.
Day 3 - Not much left, but the initial sweetness was still evident and berry flavours more muted again. The tannins at the finish were stronger today.

Overall this was a lovely wine. It was quite different on day two and I'm still not sure whether I preferred it on the first or second day. It still feels like it has a good few years left in it as well. 92 points
