2005 Niepoort Robustus Douro red

Post by Rune EG »

2.5 hrs decanting (needed). Dark red with light rim. Fresh balanced aroma of oak and berries and a touch of bitter coffee. Hint of something sweet both in the aroma and taste. Powerful, the taste is full of oak and berries, full body, acceptable level of tannins and a bit dry towards the end. Medium to long aftertaste. A “big” wine with not much elegance. Remaining 4 btls will stay in the cellar for some years. The points are given on basis of the product alone, but at this stage this wine is overpriced (selling at USD 85-95 in Germany and Norway) 91 p.
