New top Douro red from Wine & Soul (Sandra Tavares and Jorge Borges). Based on limited info available, the grapes are from a small vineyard used to be owned by Borges’ grandfather (Vale do Pinhao, Cima Corgo). Label is stating 100 years old vines (more than 30 varities). Foot trodden. Bottled 2011. The 2009 vintage is the first vintage, produced 3500 bottles. Sold in Germany at abt USD 65 and in Denmark at abt USD 70.
Decanted 2 hrs. Dark red colour. Subdued aroma of a nice berries/oak combination, wet wood, some spices. Taste is smooth, a fantastic combination of berries/oak that is so typical for the best reds from Douro, powerful, good/acceptable tannins, full body and long finish. Purchased one bottle for tasting, but will get more. A wine that will be perfect for cellaring some years. 94 pts.
