2009 Vintage Ports - what do you think?

A number of us have now had the chance to taste some of the 2009 VP's that are being released. Today, Roy just released a 18 reviews, of sixteen 2009 Vintage Ports, in the newsletter as well. For those who've tried them I'm curious to know what you think of the 2009 VP's vintage overall, now that they have been bottled and released. Also, what are your most and least favorites of the ones you've tried so far?

I tasted this when I was in london visiting Tom A and Alex B.

I must say I absoltely love love love the 2009s from the TFP releases.

The fonseca is one I feel is a powerhouse and one that might require lots of time to show through and flesh out

Taylor is one that really shines for me, so balanced, packed with fruit. Picked up a 6 pack of this but am still waiting delivery =(.

The croft is an above average drinker and one i would look out for at the right price, as with the Skeffington.

The Taylor VVV is just a notch below the regular taylor and one that is a treat for sure.

Amongst the Symington line up, the Vesuvio is fantastic as usual.

I found the warres on the thinner side and the Dow Senhora not fruity enough.

If i had a choice of one that would go the distance, i'd say the taylor for sure.

I saw some 2009 Graham Malvedos for sale locally--anyone try this yet?

for me it was a bit on the light side. Approachable, fruity and good.

I'll stand behind my saying that this was definitely a TFP vintage as oppose to a SFE one if you're looking for agers

I agree that the nod goes to TFP when it comes to 2009, unlike 2007. That being said there are some amazing 2009's by SFE too; that is for sure!

How long did you get to spend with the Graham's 2009? Just curious.

I've had the Graham's 2009 and liked it. My report had a TN on the Graham's in it. YMMV.

not too long unforutnately

my entire grahams' line up was tasted @ the graham's lodge towards the end of the day.

So went through the
Warres
Vesuvio
Dow's Senhora
and graham's malvedos.

I really enjoyed the 2009 Malvedos and thought it to be a stellar bottle.

yea, but did you feel it had the stuffings to really go the distance?

I felt all of hte 09s from the two companies made good juice.

Yes, I do think it had the stuffing and IIRC I was in the 93+ range for it. I'll need to search through my notes to find it (I'm a few hundred behind in typing them up at the moment).

So far I've been pretty happy about almost all the 2009's I've had so far. A smaller vintage, but it seems the quality has been quite high overall. I spent the weekend writing up my notes on the 2009 Fladgate Partnership VP's that I tasted last October and I can tell you I've got almost identical scores as what Roy had. (Disclaimer: Both of us tasted them independently and didn't share our notes or scores on them before hand.)
