1991 LBV Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: Pop 'n' pour - An odd bottle acquired as part of a mixed lot in a provincial auction. Bottled in 1997, filtered. Decanted off a very small amount of powdery sediment. Deep red in colour, showing shades of maturity - surprisingly still opaque. A little hollow on the nose but work brings out fresh blackcurrants. Thick and dense texture; dry but full of fruit and with surprisingly vigorous tannins. Full flavours and with plenty of structure from the acidity and tannins of the wine. A little hot on the aftertaste, before a long and chalky-dry finish. The Dow dryness dominates the wine - which is surprisingly delicious for a 20 year old LBV. 89 points
