1970 Fonseca Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: ½ hour - Bought from and drunk at El Vino, Fleet Street. Deep red colour, teenage looking rather than a true youngster; virtually opaque. Very closed on the nose (although it opened up beautifully in the glass over the course of the next 2-3 hours); vigorous swirling coaxed cherries and dusty roses out of the glass. Rich flavours swamp the palate on taking a sip, dominated by sweet cherries but with an incredibly dry and tannic core (which softened with time in the glass). Lots of complexity on the palate. Some heat on the aftertaste was followed by a lip tingling and massive finish of immense duration. DRT guessed this to be Graham '85 or Taylor '92 and JGH guessed it to be from the vintage range 1985-1991. 94 points
