2000 Fonseca Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 17 days - Deep red; opaque, even on the rim. Very closed on the nose, showing very little (although later there was some mintiness). Very sweet impact on the palate, full of ripe and luscious fruit. The tannins are very firm and quite powdery. A big acidic structure lies behind the deep, ripe brambles. Slightly hot aftertaste from the acid, which leads to a finish that is very slow to develop into a modest but long-lasting dark chocolate and raspberry flavour. This port is something of a slow burner - very pleasant and full of potential, but certainly not yet delivering what it might do one day! 88 points
